I first spotted a bright purple parking space right near the main entrance of a shopping center. There was no “Handicap” symbol and no loading zone marking — just a vivid purple space that stood out immediately. Curious, I walked over and read the sign. That’s when I realized it wasn’t just decorative — it carried a meaningful purpose.
These purple parking spaces are reserved to honor U.S. service members who have received the Purple Heart. This military award is given to those who were wounded or lost their lives while serving in combat. By setting aside these spots, communities recognize their sacrifice and make it easier for these veterans to access public places.
