Will and Grace Star Passes Away at 95 Son Shares Heartfelt Tribute

Stevenson often embraced roles with a religious undertone, humorously describing his work as “marrying or burying people.” His son Scott shared that, in Stevenson’s words, “The panic-stricken director would invariably come to him to beg him to find a way to fill in unscripted space between ‘We are gathered here together’… and the ‘amen’ at the end of the scene. He admitted that he got pretty good at that.”

Born in Piedmont, California, Stevenson served in the Navy during the Korean War before studying English at UC Berkeley. He married Barbara Keller, with whom he had Charles III and Valerie, and later Joy Stevenson, with whom he had Catherine, Scott, and William.

He is survived by five children, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren—leaving behind a legacy both on-screen and in the lives of his family.

Charles C. Stevenson Jr.’s steady presence, subtle humor, and decades-long dedication to his craft made him a beloved figure to colleagues, audiences, and generations of fans.
