Many people choose fresh, nutritious foods because they want to support a healthy lifestyle. But even foods commonly associated with wellness can sometimes carry food-safety risks if they are eaten raw or handled improperly.
One example is raw sprouts.
Alfalfa, clover, mung bean, and other sprouts are popular additions to salads, sandwiches, wraps, and smoothies. They contain nutrients and can be part of a balanced diet. However, the conditions used to grow sprouts can also allow certain harmful bacteria to multiply.
