A Delivery Driver Left Four Words on Our Doorbell Camera—Then I Fired the Babysitter

When the parents arrived home, they checked the trash can.

Among the household garbage were several medication containers, including children’s cough medicine and an over-the-counter product capable of causing drowsiness.

The parents did not recognize the medications as anything they had given their son.

One pharmacy bag also appeared to have Megan’s first name on it.

That discovery changed the situation immediately.

The mother contacted the child’s pediatrician and explained that the boy had recently seemed unusually tired.

The doctor advised the parents to check whether he could be awakened normally and recommended immediate medical evaluation.

Their Son Was Difficult to Wake

When the mother found her son in his crib, he appeared deeply asleep.

She touched him and called his name, but he barely responded.

That was very different from his normal behavior.

The parents took him to the emergency department, where medical staff evaluated his breathing, heart rate, temperature, and neurological responses.

Blood and urine testing were also performed.

After an initial assessment, doctors determined that the child was stable but had evidence consistent with exposure to a sedating medication.

The family was told that additional testing would be needed to determine exactly what substance was involved.

The Investigation

Police became involved after the family provided investigators with the Ring footage, photographs of the medication containers, and information about the babysitter.

Investigators later found additional children’s medication among Megan’s belongings.

According to the account, Megan initially denied giving the child any medication.

Her explanation changed during questioning.

Eventually, she admitted that she had given the child medication to make it easier for him to sleep.

She reportedly told investigators that the first incident occurred after the child resisted a nap and cried for an extended period. After seeing that he became sleepy, she repeated the behavior.

She said she had not intended to seriously harm him.

For the parents, however, the explanation offered little comfort.

The issue was not simply one poor decision. According to the account, the behavior had happened repeatedly while the family believed their child was receiving ordinary care.

How the Delivery Driver Became Involved

The delivery driver’s name was later identified as Andre.

According to the account, he had seen Megan carrying a bag toward the family’s trash can.

While she was putting it inside, a medication bottle reportedly fell from the bag.

Andre noticed her quickly pick it up and conceal it beneath other garbage.

He did not know exactly what was happening.

He simply believed that something about the situation was unusual enough to warrant a warning.

Because the camera’s microphone did not work, he could not speak to the family directly through it.

So he wrote the message instead.

That simple decision prompted the parents to investigate the trash before leaving the house again.

A Child’s Recovery

The boy was monitored at the hospital and eventually recovered.

Doctors advised the family to continue following up with his pediatrician and to watch for any additional concerns.

The experience, however, left his parents shaken.

His mother began questioning every time she had previously dismissed his tiredness.

She wondered whether she should have recognized something sooner.

Her husband reminded her that they had trusted someone who had appeared dependable and caring.

The responsibility for deliberately giving medication to a child did not belong to the parents simply because they had not suspected it.

The Broken Camera Finally Worked

Several weeks later, another package arrived.

This time, the Ring camera’s microphone had been repaired.

Andre appeared on the family’s doorstep and looked directly toward the camera.

“I hope the little guy is doing okay,” he said.

The father answered through the intercom.

“He is. Because of you.”

Andre smiled and walked back toward his vehicle.

For months, the family had joked about the delivery driver who appeared to be talking to their silent camera.

They never imagined that one day, his attempt to communicate would become the reason they discovered something was wrong.

The experience left the parents with a difficult lesson about trust and vigilance: even when someone appears reliable, unusual changes in a child’s behavior deserve attention.

And sometimes, a warning that seems small can make an enormous difference.
