When my mother’s will was read, I expected to feel a mixture of sadness and gratitude. Instead, I was surprised by what I received.
Other members of the family inherited valuable belongings, savings, and property. My inheritance was much simpler: an old shawl that had belonged to my mother.
It was faded, worn, and frayed around the edges. To some of my relatives, it looked like little more than an old piece of fabric.
