The green flash is a rare optical phenomenon that can sometimes be seen around sunrise or sunset when atmospheric conditions allow different wavelengths of light to become visible near the horizon.
The controversy wasn’t really about whether the green flash exists.
Instead, viewers disagreed about the category.
Some argued that “event” made them think of something scheduled, such as a concert, wedding, or ceremony. A rare natural phenomenon didn’t immediately fit that mental definition.
Others pointed out that an event can simply mean something that happens, making the category technically reasonable.
