Finding cracks or unusual spaces inside a watermelon can be surprising. If the fruit looks different from what you expected, it is natural to wonder whether something went wrong while it was growing.
The good news is that internal cracks do not automatically mean a watermelon is unsafe to eat.
Several factors can affect the inside of a watermelon, including growing conditions, changes in water availability, rapid growth, temperature fluctuations, physical handling, and ripeness. In some cases, these conditions can lead to unusual textures or hollow-looking areas inside the fruit.
