For months, Megan had seemed like the ideal babysitter. She arrived on time, knew the child’s routine, kept the house tidy, and regularly sent his parents photos throughout the day.
Then one Thursday, a delivery driver left an unusual message through the family’s broken Ring camera:
“CHECK YOUR TRASH CAN.”
What the parents discovered there led to a medical emergency, a police investigation, and a painful realization about someone they had trusted with their child.
A Babysitter the Family Trusted
Megan had worked for the family since the previous fall. Their one-year-old son had quickly grown attached to her, and his parents felt comfortable leaving him in her care while they worked.
She remembered his nap schedule, knew his favorite foods, and seemed attentive to his needs.
There had been a few small concerns.
Some afternoons, the boy appeared unusually sleepy. On several occasions, he slept through much of dinner despite having already taken his afternoon nap.
Megan always had an explanation.
He had played outside. He had resisted his nap. He had simply been tired.
His parents accepted those explanations because nothing else seemed obviously wrong.
They had no reason to suspect that something more serious could be happening.
The Message on the Camera
The family also had a regular delivery driver who had been visiting their home for months.
The Ring camera’s microphone was broken, so the parents could see him speaking occasionally but could never hear what he was saying.
They treated it as a harmless inconvenience.
Then, one Thursday afternoon, the driver arrived with another package.
After placing it near the door, he began walking toward his vehicle. Suddenly, he stopped and looked toward the home’s trash cans.
He returned to the porch, took a piece of cardboard from a package, and wrote a message with a marker.
He held it directly toward the camera.

The mother immediately became concerned.
She replayed the footage several times before calling Megan to ask how her son was doing.
Megan said the child had eaten lunch and was sleeping.
The mother decided to leave work early.
