Carrier Strike Claim Raises New Gulf Tensions

Claims from Tehran that a U.S. aircraft carrier was hit in the Arabian Sea have added another layer of uncertainty to an already tense regional standoff, even as American officials strongly deny that the USS Abraham Lincoln was damaged.

Iranian state-linked media reported that the USS Abraham Lincoln, a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, had been struck during what Iranian officials described as a retaliatory missile operation. The reports framed the launch as a response to recent U.S. and Israeli military action in the region, referred to in the original account as Operation Epic Fury.

Washington rejected the claim. U.S. Central Command said the carrier remained fully operational and unaffected, while defense officials maintained that any missiles launched toward the carrier strike group either failed or did not come close to the vessel.

Conflicting Claims Around the USS Abraham Lincoln

The competing accounts highlight how quickly military claims can become part of a wider information battle during a crisis. Iranian officials presented the missile launch as proof of their ability to challenge U.S. naval power near the Strait of Hormuz, while the Pentagon described the strike report as false and dangerous.
