Taho Survived the Highway, But His Fight Wasn’t Over

Some animal rescue stories begin with an act so cruel it is hard to understand. Taho’s story was one of them. The young pit bull survived being thrown from a moving vehicle on a Minnesota interstate, only for rescuers to later learn that saving his body was not the same as healing everything he had endured.

His case drew attention not only because of the violence of what happened, but because of the difficult reality that can follow severe animal abuse. Rescue groups, law enforcement, veterinarians, and foster caregivers all tried to give Taho a future. In the end, his journey became a painful reminder of how deep trauma can run.

The Night Taho Was Found

On February 1, 2023, deputies with the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office were pursuing suspects in a stolen truck on Interstate 694 in Arden Hills, Minnesota. According to the sheriff’s office, the suspects were wanted in connection with carjackings and gun-related crimes.

During the chase, the truck was reportedly traveling the wrong way on the interstate at about 60 mph. Deputies saw something white come out of the vehicle and hit the road, but in the moment, they did not know what it was.
