Trump’s UK Warning Puts the Alliance Under Strain

Donald Trump’s reported warning to Britain over its refusal to commit forces to a widening conflict with Iran has placed fresh pressure on one of the world’s most closely watched alliances.

The dispute centers on the UK government’s decision not to send military support into the confrontation. Trump responded by questioning Britain’s willingness to act and suggesting that American protection should no longer be treated as automatic.

In comments attributed to him on Truth Social, Trump told Britain to “Go get your own oil” and warned that the United States “won’t be there to help you anymore” if the UK stayed out of the conflict. The remarks have drawn attention not only because of their tone, but because they touch on security, energy supply and the long-running idea of the US-UK “Special Relationship.”

A Security Dispute With Economic Consequences

The timing is especially sensitive. Tensions around the Strait of Hormuz matter far beyond military strategy. The waterway is a key route for global energy shipments, and any instability there can add pressure to oil markets, jet fuel prices and wider transport costs.
