“Sir… can I eat with you?”
The question came softly, almost lost amid the quiet clatter of silverware and hushed conversation in a busy Chicago restaurant. Yet it stopped Richard Evans, a prominent real estate businessman, in his tracks.
Sitting alone in a Michelin-starred bistro, preparing to enjoy his dinner, he turned toward the voice: a young girl, probably 11 or 12, with worn clothes, messy hair, and eyes full of hope and hunger.
