These two hospital stories prove that even in stressful environments, a little laughter can go a long way.
The Confusing Question
A man was resting in a hospital bed, recovering from surgery and breathing through an oxygen mask. A young student nurse entered the room to give him a partial sponge bath as part of his recovery care.
As she worked, the patient mumbled through the mask.
“Nurse… are my test results black?”
The nurse paused, confused by what she thought she heard.
“Sir,” she replied gently, “I’m only assigned to help with basic care right now.”
But the man repeated the question again, still muffled by the oxygen mask. Concerned that the patient might be anxious about his health, the nurse decided to reassure him.
After checking on him carefully, she said kindly, “Sir, everything seems completely normal. There’s nothing to worry about.”
The patient slowly lifted his mask, smiled weakly, and clarified:
“Thanks… but I was asking if my test results are back.”
The nurse blinked in surprise before both of them burst into laughter at the mix-up. Sometimes a simple misunderstanding is all it takes to brighten a long hospital day.
