Canada faces tragic school shooting in the deadliest incident in decades

Canada is mourning after a devastating shooting in the remote town of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, left nine people dead and at least 25 injured on Wednesday, February 10. The attacks unfolded at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and a nearby residence, marking one of the deadliest shootings in Canada in decades.

Six victims were found at the school, with a seventh dying en route to the hospital. Two more were discovered at a nearby home, believed to be connected to the tragedy. Authorities also found the suspected shooter deceased at the school from what appears to have been a self-inflicted injury.

Tumbler Ridge, a small community of roughly 2,400 people, is home to a secondary school with about 175 students. Survivors described chaotic scenes, with classmates using tables to barricade doors and protect one another. “It felt like I was somewhere that I had only seen on TV,” said Grade 12 student Darian Quist.
