A student trapped inside Tumbler Ridge Secondary School during yesterday’s shooting has described the moment he realized the full scale of the tragedy. Canada is mourning after a devastating attack on February 10, which claimed nine lives and injured at least 25 others. The violence struck both the secondary school and a nearby residence, marking one of the deadliest shootings in the nation’s recent history.
Six victims were discovered at the school, with a seventh dying on the way to the hospital. Two more were found at a nearby home, and police believe these deaths are linked to the attack. Authorities also found the suspected shooter dead at the school, apparently from a self-inflicted injury.
Grade 12 student Darian Quist recounted his terrifying experience to CBC Radio West. Arriving at school in the afternoon, he immediately faced blaring alarms that sent students and staff into lockdown. Quist and 15 classmates, along with a teacher, barricaded themselves in a classroom for over two hours.
