Forensic Expert Highlights an Overlooked Moment in the Alex Pretti ICE Shooting Coverage

New scrutiny is emerging in the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, the 37-year-old ICU nurse killed by ICE agents in Minneapolis on January 24—less than a month after Renee Nicole Good’s death in the same city.

Pretti, known for his work with U.S. veterans, was pepper-sprayed, restrained, and shot multiple times during the confrontation. Federal authorities initially claimed he had “violently resisted” officers and was carrying a 9mm handgun.

However, video footage and eyewitness accounts paint a very different picture. Pretti had a legal permit to carry the firearm, which was holstered when agents first engaged him. Multiple angles now show his gun being removed by an ICE officer before the shooting began. At the time, Pretti was holding only a cellphone and attempting to protect two women nearby, directly contradicting claims that he posed an active threat.

Dr. JP Garrison, a clinical and forensic psychologist, has highlighted a “strange” detail many may have missed in the videos. He focused on an officer in a gray jacket who removed Pretti’s firearm, then immediately “turned around and ran in the other direction.”
