He Was Found in an Artificial Lake in the Village—At First, I Was Terrified

It started as an ordinary walk—one of those quiet, unremarkable moments when the world feels predictable enough to stop paying close attention. The air was still, the path familiar, and the lake ahead reflected everything in a soft, harmless calm. Nothing suggested that anything was about to feel different.

But then I noticed the gathering.

A small group of strangers stood near the edge of the water, all focused on the same point. Not speaking loudly, not moving much—just watching. In the center of their attention floated something dark and circular, half-submerged, drifting just enough to keep its shape uncertain. It didn’t look entirely natural, and that was enough to make the mind start filling in the blanks.

At first, it was just curiosity. A forgotten object? A piece of equipment? But the longer I looked, the more the uncertainty began to grow into something heavier. The stillness around it made it worse, as though the lake itself was holding its breath. When you don’t have answers, imagination doesn’t stay quiet for long.

I heard fragments of guesses from others nearby. A trap. A broken device. Something alive. Each possibility seemed to make the scene more tense than the last. The object didn’t change, but the way it was perceived shifted constantly, shaped by the unease building in the group. It was strange how quickly a calm environment could start to feel charged with threat simply because no one understood what they were looking at.

For a moment, even the water felt suspicious—too still, too dark, too willing to hide things just beneath its surface.
