New Developments in Nancy Guthrie Investigation: Tucson Property Searched

Law enforcement in Tucson recently conducted a court-approved search at a vacant property linked to the extended family of Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today host Savannah Guthrie. The home, reportedly unoccupied for months, became the focus after investigators obtained new information prompting a judicially authorized search warrant.

Authorities have stressed that the execution of a warrant does not imply guilt or confirm any findings. “A search warrant is a procedural step within a broader investigation,” officials said, emphasizing the importance of due process and careful, methodical evidence collection.

During the search, officers secured a large chest freezer in the garage that had been fastened with heavy chains and a lock. While unusual, authorities cautioned that the secured appliance alone does not indicate wrongdoing. Forensic teams carefully documented and collected items from the freezer for laboratory analysis, following strict protocols to preserve evidence and maintain a clear chain of custody.

Investigators are employing standard forensic procedures, including photographing the scene, labeling evidence, and sending materials to certified labs for DNA, trace, and material testing. Officials reminded the public that analysis can take weeks—or even months—depending on complexity, and no results or conclusions have been released.

Authorities also highlighted that the property had been unoccupied, meaning utilities were disconnected, and that vacant homes are often examined in investigations for potential evidence or context regarding timelines. At all times, officers maintained a secure perimeter to ensure safety and protect the integrity of the scene.
