White House Issues Termination Letters to Multiple Biden-Appointed U.S. Attorneys

In a dramatic move shaking the Justice Department, the White House under President Donald Trump sent immediate termination notices to multiple U.S. Attorneys appointed by former President Joe Biden. The terse emails, signed by the White House’s deputy director for presidential personnel, stated:

“At the direction of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as U.S. Attorney is terminated, effective immediately.”

While it’s customary for U.S. Attorneys to step down when a new administration takes office, sources say this approach is far from typical. Normally, the incoming administration requests resignations, rather than sending abrupt termination letters.

Several Biden-appointed attorneys from Seattle to Maryland confirmed their departures. Among those affected:

  • Tara McGrath, San Diego, received a termination notice thanking her for her service.
  • Erek Barron, Maryland, sent a farewell email to his office, describing it as an honor to lead a dedicated team.
  • Ismail Ramsey, Northern District of California, formally concluded his tenure.
  • Tessa Gorman, Seattle, and Dena King, Western District of North Carolina, also resigned at the president’s request.
