Doctors ask questions like these for a reason. Simple orientation tasks can provide useful information about memory and thinking. But on this particular day, the answers became something far more memorable than a score on a clinical checklist.
Arthur was asked for the date.
He responded with a number so unexpected that the room seemed to pause.
Bernard was given another straightforward question. After thinking carefully, he finally answered, “Tuesday.”
